I started this track watching the series again through a different lens (ptsd). I wanted to contrast all of 80's pop culture at the time (movies like the Explorers, Weird Science, music like George Michael's "Father Figure", RnB and pop, it's slot on ABC TV network) and how drastically different everything was from Twin Peaks. I added very small hints of these type of references and then reversed the track a third of the way through on a 5/4 measure. A nod to David Lynch's use of simple practical effects he uses to bring his series and movies to life, including backwards masking. I kept everything as simple as possible.The alternating snare and cymbal hits were made from the same pop of electricity noise sample. Then, both versions play together, the volume of the reversed track is slowly raised until the end.
I also call this song "the waiting room bop." This tracks pads signal the appearance of the red curtain in the forest, and give a pop-like Benny Hill type theme to Cooper, Bob, and others running around the waiting room of the Black Lodge.
